I have used this transit system for years, as I have a medical condition that prevents driving. Ever since my first experiences with them around year 2000, they were kind, courteous, and always ran on time! Unfortunately, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and that link is the Athens to Princeton route. It was GREAT when the busdriver named James ran it; he always went out of his way for people and had a smile, even when sick. The NEW driver is rude, complains about student riders to me behind their backs, and always leaves early (and complains if the station calls him back to pick up riders that were, in fact, at the stop on time). He made an inappropriate "sarcastic" comment about me "partying" when I was dropping my child off with their other parent. I bit my tongue about all of this out of courtesy. But today, I had a Neurologist appointment scheduled over winter break (as to not miss any of my college classes). I live in Athens & my Dr. appointment was in Princeton. I had gotten a ride to Princeton to wait for the bus there on Mercer street so I didn't have to walk (keep in mind, it is 17 degrees Fahrenheit and schools were on delay). I had to hire a babysitter for this event. I even called the transit authority directly (at 12:30pm, which would have been time enough to walk to my 2:00 appointment) to inquire of the schedule, and the dispatch told me a bus ran from Athens to Princeton at 2:00 pm on Wednesdays in addition to the regular run times at 8am, 9am, 12pm, and 4pm - with all of these returning to Athens after meeting the other buses on the half-hours of the aforementioned times. I waited outside on Mercer street since 2:01 pm due to the availability of my ride to Princeton (I had called my Dr. to let them know I'd be about 15 minutes late). The bus never ran. I called the dispatch around 2:30 asking if the driver was running late, but she could not get in contact with him. I decided maybe he went a different route (also against policy) so I'd wait for him to come back around, heading to Athens, to see if he could swing me to my appointment or at least get me home, out of the biting cold. But again, he did not run whatsoever. I called the dispatch to complain again around 3:10pm, and again she could not get in touch with the driver. All she said the supervisor would do is "look into it." Well, not only did I waste my time, get stuck in the 17-degree cold for nearly 2 1/2 hours, wasted my money on a babysitter I didn't need (I am a single mom & disabled college student!), missed my appointment that I will now have to reschedule and miss vital college classes for, but now I have to go without my much-needed migraine medicine until my specialist is able to work me in - up to a couple months away. This has interfered with the first few months of my year. When waiting, I saw a non-emergency medical transport bus pull up & park in a parking lot, and the supervisor didn't offer to have one take me to my appointment OR home!
