I called Blue Ribbon Taxi of Columbia South Carolina to send a taxi to fetch me at the Palmetto Health Baptist hospital and take me to my apartment in Elgin.
The taxi driver arrived a few minutes later. After driving for 12 minutes, the taxi driver suddenly informed me that he would accept "CASH ONLY", as he said that his credit card reader was not working. When I told him that I did not have cash on me and that I would prefer to use my credit card, he insisted that he would take me to a bank to get cash. When I asked him what would happen if a passenger only had a credit card, he said that he would then have to call another cab whose credit card reader was working to come and fetch them. He then took a detour from the I-20 to a Bank Of America. The meter was still going and this individual was charging me for the trip to the bank.
After I had obtained cash from the ATM, this individual then proceeded to Elgin and dropped me off at my apartment. He refused to give me a receipt for the journey and had the excuse that the taxi printer was not working.
It is hard to believe that a company can operate like this in South Carolina, and even worse that their cab drivers prey on people who recently had surgery.
