BETTER than Home Cookin'!
When I discovered Marie Callendar's upscale location in the Museum Row area of Los Angeles, I felt like I had walked into another world. In addition to the 'comfort foods' that make this restaurant an essential part of any 'eating vacation' (the pies are only the first claim to fame), there are foods that, if I cooked at home, I would cook and serve to my guests: garlic mashed potatoes with meatloaf, asparagus steamed to perfection, and let us not forget those mouth-watering al dente pasta dishes, and the Chinese Chicken Salad (it's all about the Mandarin Oranges, people!!!) As one who subscribes to the maxim, "Life is short, eat dessert first!", I love the fact that there is such a vast array of mouth-watering choices, and I frequently DO eat my dessert first (after all, one can always take what's left of the entree home, in a people bag, to consume, later). I love the ambience, too, especially when the piano bar is in full swing. Speaking of the bar, while I am a very "light" (social) drinker, I find that the bartenders can be persuaded to go just a little lighter on the booze, if one requests it, and they don't give me a hard time about 'virgin drinks, either (I was the Designated Driver long before there was a name for it, and I like for everyone to have a good time. So, whether it's Girls' Night or Date Night, or Sunday Brunch, this is always an excellent choice, and you can't go wrong---the servers are professional and accommodating, the food is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable---and, you can "EAT DESSERT, FIRST"!
