        Worst Contractor in the Area

We contracted with Quinn’s Home Improvement to do work on our home in the summer of 2009. Four months later, only 1/3 of the project was completed. When we fired the company, we had the work inspected by three other contractors and by two Lynchburg City Building Inspectors. There are many cases of questionable or faulty workmanship. These include, but are not limited to, the front wall of the structure, which is 1½ inches off plumb; the roofline, which comes above the bottom edge of an upstairs bedroom window and will necessitate its replacement; and the use of tarpaper as the base for a metal roof that instead requires a water and ice shield. Additionally, these contractors estimated that between $20,000 and $23,000 worth of work had been done, the latter figure being "very generous." From these figures one needs to subtract $8000, which we paid to subcontractors that Quinn's refused to pay. The company has refused to return the remainder of our $35,000 downpayment, which amounts to $15,000 to $20,000. Though it falsely portrayed itself as a member in good standing with the Better Business Bureau until recently, the firm in fact has an "F" rating with the BBB and nine complaints against it. Ours was closed on January 2010 because "the BBB has determined that the company's response does not adequately address all the issues or make a good faith effort to resolve the dispute." This seems typical of Quinn's business practices based on what we have subsequently learned from other homeowners, area contractors, and members of the legal profession. Additionally, we have lodged a complaint with the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.
