ST. Luke Health Services

299 E River Rd, Oswego,NY,13126

HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY In 1968, St. Luke was originated by a group of community health oriented people that recognized the need for intermediate, residential-type housing. This housing facility would meet the every day living needs of the elderly, the handicapped, and the chronically ill. The St. Luke Nursing Home Facility was formed to provide a comfortable home-like atmosphere where independence, dignity, self respect, and companionship are given high priority, and health care supervision, personal care assistance, and tender loving care are close at hand. The Board of Directors organized St. Luke as a non-profit, non-denominational voluntary facility. Ground was broken in the spring of 1973 with Reverend William J. Brown presiding as President of the Board of Directors. The doors opened on June 17, 1975, and the first residents arrived to experience this new concept St. Luke. In 1993 we grew from a 120 bed health related facility to become a 200 bed skilled nursing facility and we added the communitys first Adult Day Health Care program. Subsequently, our name was changed to St. Luke Residential Health Care Facility, Inc. In 2000, Bishops Commons was opened to be the communitys first Assistive Living Facility in Oswego County. In 2002, Little Lukes Childcare Center was opened and in 2005, Michaud Residential Health Care Facility was acquired and became an affiliate of the St. Luke organization. St. Luke is currently the largest provider in Oswego County of 24 hour, residential skilled nursing services. In addition to skilled nursing care, St. Luke offers a Providence Care unit and a Short-Stay Rehabilitation Unit. In an effort to better portray the services St. Luke now provides our community, and services we will be providing in the future, St. Luke once again changed its name in July 1998 to St. Luke Health Services.
