                        Crescent Pines Hospital

Our adult son recently was a patient at Crescent Pines for alcohol abuse treatment. Unlike many other reviewers, he had wonderful treatment and care and is now able to return to his family and job. The doctors and counselors were helpful and professional. Of course, our son was very dedicated to listening to them and willing to make the changes necessary in his life. The staff was helpful when we had questions about insurance coverage and other issues. I would recommend this facility to any adult ready to recover from alcohol abuse.

Spent 11 days trying to get out

If there was a star less than 1, I would certainly give it. DO NOT go to this hospital. I attempted suicide last year and was involuntarily committed to Crescent Pines for 11 days. The employees on the halls are rude and constantly scream at the patients. One particular African American "aide" was verbally abusive and no one seemed to care. They set me up with a social worker named Erin who I saw ONE TIME in 11 days and didn't even show up for my family meeting. My husband called her multiple times and she never called him back. The bathrooms are locked and if you have to ask someone to unlock it, they give you an attitude and make you wait because you had the audicity to actually need to go. The right hand never knows what the left hand is doing. The only outside time you get is to stand in a small area where people smoke. There are very few groups and what groups are there are poorly run with no agenda. You get three meals a day and one snack before bed which is hot milk and a yogurt bar. There is nothing to do accept sit in a day room and watch television all day and evening. They order you to bed at 10 pm and refuse to give you blankets when every single person there is complaining about freezing to death. The beds are a wooden box with a very inexpensive cot mattress that is not meant for anyone weighing over 50 pounds. I HATED this place and instead of concentrating on getting well and getting help for my depression, I spend time faking well so they'd release me. Sad. This is no hospital. It's a step above a prison.

                            A NIGHTMARISH EXPERIENCE!

The last few days have been a NIGHTMARE for my family. One of my family members VOLUNTARILY admitted themselves into this facility for depression. A friend and I was there when for intake. I didn't feel it was the right facility, but we were told that they would help us with a transfer, or that they could ask for a discharge and be out within 3 days. That was the beginning of the MANY LIES we were told. This facility is more like a prison than a treatment center. They keep the thermostat on meatlocker temps and will not give them blankets. They are not allowed to have snacks or drink except at meal times(??), so all they have is a water fountain in the back; yet the employees eat and drink whatever they want to in front of the patients. The only outside time is a small area for the smokers. They are never taken for exercise in the gym. They can have almost no belongings and spend the majority of the day sitting around a poorly lit room looking at each other or watching television. My family member said they see a psychiatrist for maybe a 20 min session and have about 4 to 5 other 20 min sessions with social workers/ NOT licensed therapists/psychologists. Everyone is throw in together: drug addicts, alcoholics, psychotics, depressed patients... They will not change bills, so they can get a drink besides water. They only have visitation 3 evenings a week. The patient "advocate" was more of an advocate for the facility than my loved one. The first time I was allowed to visit, my loved one was very apparently drugged on stimulants; the next day they were sluggish from medication. The psychiatrist said that is the plan there; "today's economy doesn't lend itself to true therapy, so it's get them on the right meds and get them out." Problem was we couldn't get my family member out. The morning after intake, my family member gave them a written withdrawal notice which was conveniently lost for two days. Then the only way we could even get a transfer was through a 10-13 because my loved one had made the mistake of saying that they felt more suicidal being in that facility because they make the patients feel so dehumanized. It is a very punative program that is NOT the correct placement for someone suffering from depression. It would probably be appropriate for court ordered placement as a punishment. Most employees seemed scared to speak with you, including the program administrator, who was nowhere to be found after our first conversation with him. They tell you that all facilities are like theirs; NOT true. Don't let the newly refurbished facility fool you. It is like stepping back in time. My loved one is now in a different older facility, where the people truly seem to care about helping them get better. They immediately took them off the 10-13 because they could see it wasn't needed. It was just a farce to cover their tracks for all the mistakes they made trying to keep another patient there as long as possible for the money. BEWARE!
