Having a large German Shepherd in a neighborhood full of kids on bikes and skateboards as well as people walking their dogs past our house, I was a little skeptical that an electric fence would do the job. What K-9 taught me (and Matrix) was that the fence was actually the back up to the training that K-9 puts in place. Matrix was taught were the boundaries were and learned that there was a warning tone when he approached them and a correction shock if he didn't head the warning. Ever since it has been pure bliss. Matrix can go out whenever he wants and I can be confident that he will not leave the yard. The best part is we recently moved and had K-9 reinstall a new fence at our new house. As soon as Matrix saw the flags go up marking the boundaries, he knew exactly where his limits were. As for durability, in 5 years we are now on our second collar (which was quickly replaced for free) not sure if it was a battery or something else but the status light went from green to stuck on red and it only took one phone call to quickly get a new collar at no charge. The staff is great and friendly. Although they weren't the cheapest company, I feel that the personal attention and amount of training they did with Matrix was awesome. I would highly recommend giving them a call.
