Fantastic Food, Great PRICEY Wine List
You can't beat the food at MB, it's fantastic. However, unless you're one who just rolled in from River Oaks, the wines are a bit pricey for the upper middle class. It's really a shame they don't... (thebestcritic, 2008-07-07)

What has changed here??
I dined last Friday at Mockingbird, and the food was "off". Our meals started with the 1015 onion soup, and it had a really bitter taste as if it had been burned. The color was really dark and no... (robashelt, 2008-01-28)

| Message From Mockingbird Bistro | | Experience Texas Provence - Upscale Casual Dining- Award-Winning Wine List
- Private Functions of All Sizes
- Uniquely Welcoming Ambiance
|
| | Since opening in January 2002, Mockingbird Bistro Wine Bar, 1985 Welch, has garnered rave reviews for its Texas Provence cuisine from diners and critics alike. Chef / Owner John Sheely says Mockingbird is the casual-feel place he has always wanted to open?a place where he himself would like to ?hang out.?
Mockingbird Bistro Wine Bar combines Sheely's Texas roots with a style of cooking that he knows well, that of the Riviera, specifically the French Riviera. At Mockingbird, the feel of the menu is ?country-French-meets-American-market.? Sheely updates the menus seasonally to take advantage of the ingredients available at-market, as well as to give him the freedom to exercise his creativity. |
 | Editorial Review for Mockingbird Bistro |
| A country French/nouveau American bistro with robust fare and bohemian flair.
The Scene Up and coming lawyers, empty-nesters and nearby Montrose/River Oaks foodies flock for a dash of bohemian dining and a little diversion among the darkly lit chambers. This funky-gothic, lofty nest in a small, '30s-era building chirps with character and cheerful service.
The Food A hearty, seasonal menu: A crisp, Stilton-gilded bistro salad also contains Granny Smith apple slices. Gruyere cheese atop the 1015 Onion Soup is accompanied by garlic croutons. Dinner is reminiscent of a medieval feast: Large, mouthwatering short ribs over soft cheese polenta, and jumbo asparagus that screams, "eat with fingers." A striking rare-seared tuna steak and olive tapenade, Nicoise-style, or the snappy steak au poivre with watercress and crispy frites are flavorful palate-pleasers. | Insider Tips | On the Menu Save some room because the dessert menu is devoted to all things chocolate.
Know Before You Go The "bar bites" menu offers small meals (short rib, burgers, mussels, risotto for $9.
What to Drink The eclectic wine list is priced below mark-up, so drink up. Vintner lunches and dinners are also hosted. Contact the restaurant for details.
Where to Sit Table 41 is the Mick Jagger table. It's in the middle of the room and is a fave for local celebs. | View full Citysearch profile Information provided by Citysearch |
