Vickery's opened in 1983 as a place to get a good stiff drink and a cheeseburger. Sam, Chip and Jerry are never very far away, but Dave moved on some time ago, after a lively run as a presidential canine candidate. We named the place Vickery's after Margaret Vickery, for whom the house was built and who, until the late 1970's lived in and ran an antique and fabric shop from the house. Rumor has it that Margaret Mitchell, who lived up the street, used to visit Margaret Vickery for hours on end. We still think those first drafts of "Gone With The Wind" are hidden around the house somewhere.Through the years, we've made our menu more varied and creative and we keep coming up with new favorites. Our goal will always be to serve an array of dishes, from simple to surprising, consistently prepared, fairly priced, and served by an attentive staff in a friendly, fun, and casual atmosphere. Crescent Ave. has grown up, we've made a few changes ourselves and the 200-year-old elm tree on the patio has a new leaner look. But we'll always be Vickery's and happy you came by. Once we were the only place to eat and drink on Crescent. See what we started! We've since opened the Steamhouse Lounge in Buckhead, and Highland Tap Steak Cellar and Fontaine's Oyster House in Virginia Highland. Next time you find yourself in Charleston, stop in the Vickery's restaurants on Beaufain St. and at Shem, Creek or Gene's Haufbrau in West Ashley.Welcome to our house!
