Message From City Pool Hall
Chicago's most talked about billiards, bar and restaurant.
  • Full Bar
  • Spacious Pool Table Area
  • Indoor & Outdoor Eating Area
Located along a branch of the Chicago River, a stone's throw from the ultra-popular East Bank Club, City Pool Hall is neatly nestled into the city's fastest-growing neighborhood. The 6,000-square-foot building and patio space originally served as a machine shop, and supposedly was used to support the war effort during World War II. More recently, the space had been the home of several underground dance clubs and a windowless dungeon opened only on weekends to the vampire/night-stalker set. The family-owned business spent nearly eight months knocking down walls and installing windows on the building's south side to create a brighter atmosphere. What was left was a space-enhancing exposed frame ceiling and 3,000 square feet of uninterrupted playing area. The front area at City Pool Hall features a tile-floored dining area, with seating for approximately 30 lunch-goers.

Editorial Review for City Pool Hall
Pool sharks get in a few games and sip suds.

The Scene
A pool-lover's paradise, this 12-table establishment may intimidate the
unskilled. Black-and-white pics of famous pool pros, familiar neon beer signs and soothing maroon-and-cream hues create a casually upscale feel. The crowd ranges from relaxed to ritzy.

The Draw
From its eight- or nine-foot billiards tables to a game room with foosball, pinball, electronic dart boards and sports-related video games, City Pool Hall entertains pretty much any competitor. The juke features new and old favorites, from Marley and the Police to Nelly Furtado and Barenaked Ladies, a testament to the diverse clientele. In addition to basic brews, the bar also serves frou-frou fare like daiquiris, pina coladas and mai tais. Got the munchies? Daily food specials, such as chicken primavera, and a regular roster of mozzarella sticks, steak fajitas and Italian beef pump up your game.

Insider Tips
Know Before You Go
Pool players cough up $8 for one person per hour, $12 per couple per hour, or $14 for three or more per hour. If you go over the allotted time, additional time is pro-rated.

When to Go
If you're looking for something a bit more structured, leagues compete Tuesdays and Thursdays. A women's-only league is soon to come.
