Editorial Review for Terilli's
Lower Greenville Italian restaurant meets jazz club in an art deco setting.

The Scene
A covered and heated patio opens to a dimly lit dining room and bar with widescreen TVs at this bustling spot. To the right is a black baby grand that gets tinkled every Tuesday through Sunday by local jazz artists. The vibe is art deco with black wood lining the ceiling, exposed brick and oversized modern portraiture. In the back, a private dining area can hold up to 30 people upon reservation.

The Food
Though the pricey menu promises otherwise, this food is adequate at best with the exception of a few plates. Crab cakes were moist to perfection and complimented by a piquant spicy remoulade. The chef's special, cheese tortellini, was on the dry side and offered no surprises. Lobster fettuccini with artichokes was prepared well enough. Standout desserts include the Xango Cheesecake, a naughtily fried tower of cinnamon and sugar wrapped in filo dough

You come here for the atmosphere: al fresco dining on Lower Greenville, a sleek, black-accented dining room, live jazz combos, the fashionable clientele, a celebrity or two. And the Italian food is good, too--especially Terilli's own creation, the Italian Nachos, made of thin, crispy spiced pizza dough, mozzarella and provolone cheeses, a sweet and spicy tomato sauce and more than two dozen choices of toppings. They're delicious--as are many of the appetizers. We enjoyed the Tom Landry Special, a marinated grilled chicken breast in a sweet and tangy ancho chile sauce, topped with red peppers and goat cheese. One odd thing: Most nights, Terilli's requests that you stick to a two-hour table limit. With booming business every night of the week, they can get away with it.
