A longtime Studio City favorite, Out Take Bistro Cafe in its new location just east of Laurel Canyon is, as far as food and service goes, simply -- and happily -- more of the same. But the larger space, less than a mile from the previous locale, is actually pretty, with a high ceiling softly lighted by a wagon-wheel chandelier, warm ocher walls, a faux fireplace and a small wine-service bar. The semi-sheltered patio faces busy Ventura Boulevard but provides a lively alternative for those sunny lunchtimes when you can't bear to be inside. The food's the same: homespun comfort with integrity. The wonton soup is loaded with cabbage, veggie dumplings, and sprouts. The pumpkin ravioli are roasted and more like pierogi. Salads are big, sandwiches on ciabatta, and entrees well worth their modest price. You'll never see a menu with so many strange neighbors - like Vegetable Won Ton Soup next to Ukrainian Borscht, Dungeness Crab Cakes next to Potato Vareniki dumplings, and Spinach Eggplant Salad next to Pot Sticker Salad. But don't worry, everything is delicious and, magically, it all works together. This place has a very diverse menu from Ukrainian to Italian to Southern to Asian Fusion.
