How to Organize Toys and Save Space in Your Playroom

List: Posted: 04/04/11

A playroom can be a great space for your children to play and learn new skills. Even so, it can sometimes be difficult to find additional space for new toys and furniture. Implementing a few organizational strategies into your playroom can help to free up some space and ensure that your child has ample space to play.

First, make sure that you have a designated storage area for your child’s toys. Ideally, this would be in a cupboard that can be closed and locked rather than just a big box on the floor (encouraging your child to want to get the toys straight back out again). Encourage him or her to pick up their toys at the end of each day. The sooner you begin to put this into effect, the sooner your child will get into the habit of picking up their own belongings, which can go a long way toward saving space in your playroom.

Try to avoid having any large toys present in your playroom when possible. Such toys often take up a lot of space that could be better used for furniture. If you are going to have arts and crafts supplies for your child to create with in the playroom, also make sure that you include an area where they can be stored neatly away when they are not in use.

A bookshelf is a good item to have in a playroom because it allows you to neatly store away art supplies as well as other items such as books and videos. You can also purchase chest of drawers with fold-out racks that can be used to store books, magazines, computer games and video that would otherwise get damaged in a box.

A playroom is a wonderful addition to any home with a young child. Learning how to save space can give your child more room for playing and make cleaning easier for you.
