That asphalt driveway has certainly earned its keep over the years. However, over time, you will find that even the best laid driveway eventually requires home repair. The most common problem with an asphalt driveway is that they can crack over time and with use. Don't worry, though – home repair for an asphalt driveway is actually very simple without the need for a complete driveway resurfacing.
Steps:
The first step in this home repair procedure is to clean out the crack. Remove any weeds by hand, then wash out any rubble or dirt. You can use a pressure washer to do this, or you can use a garden hose with a sprayer nozzle. Flush all of the dirt and loose debris from the crack.
Next on the home repair agenda, you need to measure the crack. If the crack is less than a half-inch in width, you can use a tube of asphalt crack repair silicone. If it is even wider, you need to buy asphalt crack filler.
For home repair to a narrow crack, simply place the opened tube of crack repair into a caulking gun and fill the crack. For a wider crack, follow the instructions on the jug of crack filler.
Before your home repair is complete, you need to seal the crack. Normal asphalt sealer can be purchased at a hardware store. Simply use this to seal the repaired crack and your home repair is finished.
Keeping your asphalt driveway looking good and free of cracks can be very simple. A little bit of home repair is really all you need to keep it in tip-top shape.
