Window dressings such as curtains and blinds can transform the look of a room. If you've decided to give your room a new decor with new curtains, you can put your creativity to work without ever using a sewing machine. Changing a room's window decor doesn't have to be difficult, and this project requires only a few items and a short amount of time.
First, find an old tablecloth, a lace panel, or a piece of muslin you'd like to use as a window decoration or curtain. The other objects you'll need include a measuring tape, scissors, iron-on seam tape, an iron and an ironing board. You can find all of these items, including muslin, at your local fabric store for very little money.
Now, set up your iron and ironing board. Trim the top edge of the fabric so there are no loose threads on the edges. To make the rod pocket, turn the top edge of the fabric under three inches and iron it to make it flat. Now, lay some of the seam tape inside the folded part of the fabric and iron it.
You'll work in a similar way to create the hem of the curtain. Fold the bottom of the fabric only two inches under and iron, then use the seam tape and iron it to complete the curtain. Now, you're ready to hang your new curtains!
