List: Posted: 12/05/11

Having an upset stomach is certainly not a comfortable situation, and it's not always possible to visit the doctor for what is seen as a minor and temporary problem.  There are many medications at your neighborhood drugstore that promise to offer fast relief, but a natural remedy might actually be the best cure - not to mention the quickest.

Consider Peppermint

One of the most effective options to calm an upset stomach is to use peppermint tea.  This is best if you have fresh peppermint leaves.  Simply crush the leaves and steep them in hot water for a couple of minutes before drinking the tea.  Dried leaves can also be used here.

Bake it Away

Baking soda in water will also help you cure an upset stomach.  Add a half teaspoon of baking soda to five ounces of water, and drink it all in one sitting.  Baking soda can neutralize excess stomach acid and help calm your grumbling belly.

Embrace the Ginger

Ginger is another natural way to calm your stomach.  You can enjoy ginger in numerous ways, from ginger ale to candied ginger, as all work well.  This has actually been used in Chinese medicine for several thousands of years to calm down upset stomachs and ease gastrointestinal (GI) problems.

Go Bananas

Finally, you might also consider eating a banana.  These are gentle on the digestive system, but can also help to counteract some of the stomach acid that is causing your discomfort.  In fact, most physicians recommend bananas as a part of treating children's GI problems.
