Many parents might think that they have to give up going to see live theater shows just because they have young children. Live theater can actually be an enriching experience for the entire family, even for kids who are very young. Here are some helpful tips to introduce live theater to children.
Get them interested first
Before you even try to take your children to see a live theater show, spark their interest in theater! Rent a movie that is based on a play that is age-appropriate and watch it with them. If they liked the movie version, tell them how much more fun it would be to watch it live.
Pick an age appropriate show
Parents can’t just expect their children to sit down to a live theater production of Hamlet on their first trip to the theater. When introducing your kids to theater, start them off with short live shows that are orientated towards a young audience.
Teach them good theater etiquette
The atmosphere at a live theater show is usually much more formal than that of a movie theater. Make sure that you take the time to teach your children proper theater etiquette before you take them to the show. That way, they’ll have a better time at the show and so will you!
Sign them up for kid’s acting classes
A great way to teach your kids to enjoy theater is to sign them up for young actor’s classes. Your kids will get the chance to develop acting skills and spend time with other children with shared interests.
